Sitting up

It sure was nice to walk into Mom's room this morning and see her sitting up with the help of her bed! She still looks really good and her vitals remain consistent. The swelling in her hands has really gone down since last night, and she is getting more sensation back in her leg.

She had one episode of bleeding overnight, though the doctors are still confident that it is old blood, and there isn't much of it. She is still receiving treatment for the fluid around her lungs, but her breathing is stronger each day.

One nurse called her condition critical but stable, though my guess is she is the least critical in the unit. Its hard to think of her as still being critical, especially seeing the tremendous progress she's made in the past couple of days. She does remain quite weak, which is not surprising. However, there is talk that she won't be in the Critical Care Unit much longer. I'm guessing she will be transferred to a regular hospital room within the next few days. This is great news! And, she is now on a regular diet, and she had some scrambled eggs, a biscuit and yogurt this morning.

She was more emotional today as the reality of her experience and how very close she came to dying is hitting her.

I've been asked about the possibility of her developing bed sores since she can't really move, certainly not turn over or side to side. Apparently, the special sheets on her bed are designed to prevent bed sores. Ah, technology!

Dad and I are back in Bryan for tonight taking care of some things. My brother and his family are coming in as well and we will have Thanksgiving lunch tomorrow, then Dad and I will head back to Houston. We wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! Lord knows its a special one for us!

Thanks Carolyn for doing this blog - a great gift to your mom, family and friends. We will continue in prayer, praise and thanksgiving for healing progress. The blog is a great way to keep your mom at the top of multiple prayer lists. Progress to this point certaintly gave us a deeper meaning of Thanksgiving! We love and appreciate all of you!
