Its been a busy week so far for Mom. She continues to work hard on her physical therapy, which wipes her out, so she is getting very solid sleep. Her blood counts were a little low the past several days, so she received another transfusion on Monday, and started feeling better, though she wasn't really feeling bad to begin with. Blood cultures done in College Station before she moved to MD Anderson finally came back today, and there is another variation of infection that needs to be addressed. She's still on the other IV antibiotics and her tubes continue to drain well. She did have a CT scan of the affected area today but we won't know results until tomorrow.
All of that being said, the wheels are in motion to transfer her to a "skilled nursing facility" within the next few days or whenever room is available. We don't know where this might be, and I'm guessing it can be just about anywhere in this part of the state where space is available. I've heard that once she moves there, she could be there for a month or two until the infections are gone and she regains strength, mobility and some independence. This will be a good move for her, as she will be able to get the focused attention she needs. Not that that isn't happening at MDA, but it's a cancer hospital and she doesn't have cancer and they aren't really set up to provide the kind of care Mom needs now. Of course the goal is to get her home as soon as she's ready, but releasing her from MDA directly back home is not an option. Will keep you posted of course.
I do have to say that the highlight of Mom's week was receiving a batch of her favorite and beloved olive cheese balls. Good think her daughter (that would be me) has perfected the recipe.

I can't think of any better "perk" than the fabulous "Cocanougher Olive Cheese Balls"! - memorable for anyone who's had one---or 2, 3, etc. I've been praying for all of you - sorry you've been sick Carolyn. I'm such a dingy - have tried to leave a comment and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong since I'd left one before - David got me back on track - I felt so silly. I'm praying for God to direct every detail of transfer to a skilled nursing facility.
Dianne, I hope to see you soon - Carolyn, thank you for doing an awesome job on the updates. I'm sending hugs and lots of love to both of you ladies and Benton!
Brenda (and David)
Sweet friends, Miles' dad was in a wonderful Skilled Nursing Facility called 'The Buckingham' in west Houston last year. It was lovely and he received very good care. I am hoping and praying that there is room for Dianne there. love to you all, Molly and family
