One inch at a time

Mom is basically healthy and the biggest concern now is getting her mobile again. She has been doing some limited physical therapy in her room and has been using a wheelchair some, which she needs help getting in and out of. I'm making sure she gets her arm exercises done, which will help her lift herself and get around in the wheelchair. Her leg is looking less swollen but she is still experiencing very little feeling. She can move her toes down but not up. She should move to the physical therapy area this week, hopefully. I think she'll start to see some marked improvement once she moves there and can get more focused care.

She enjoyed going through get-well, Christmas, and prayer cards this weekend, which Dad brought with him from Bryan. She so anxious to get home but knows that her recovery is a process, like one doctor said - inch by inch. Her spirits for the most part remain high, hopeful and thankful.

And for the second year in a row during one of Mom's stays at MD Anderson, we had snow in Houston on Friday. She had a nice view of what I call "Houston Blizzard 2009." Anywhere else in the country, it would have been called a light dusting that was just an annoyance, not something that shuts down a city. That's Houston for you!
