Sorry for the lack of communication this week, but as is usually the case, no news is good news! If Mom continues to progress, it looks like she will be out of the hospital before Christmas!
Her therapy continues to go well. The numbness and lack of movement in her leg is about the same but she is learning to use the walker without assistance and even tackled a couple of stairs yesterday (with assistance). She is wearing a leg brace that keeps her foot at a 90 degree angle. The brace easily fits in her shoe and velcros around the calf. It very light-weight too, and definitely helps her when she walks because her foot no longer drags. And she's got the wheelchair thing down pat, except for that time she got distracted by door decorations and almost ran into a cart :).
She says she often feels "sparks" in her left leg which may or may not be nerves firing back up, but they give her great hope, and there's no reason not to believe her condition will continue to improve and she will get use of her leg back. I'm not really sure what the plan is for continued therapy in Bryan, but it is a must. And of course, Mom is determined to do what it takes to get back to normal.
I wish you all could see her...she looks great! Other than being very thin right now, she has a glow that lights up a room more than usual. A very healthy glow indeed.
Mom thanks you all so much for your prayers, calls, cards and flowers. She may not be able to contact you directly to thank you herself but please know she and the rest of the family are very touched by and grateful for your caring, concern, and friendship.
