Time for some Physical Therapy!

Mom moved to the physical therapy area of MD Anderson today! Her new phone number is 713-834-8731.

This is great news, as it means she will get three hours of physical therapy a day. She's been doing great with her exercises in her room, but now she can get more focused attention. She is DETERMINED to get the feeling in and use of her leg back, and has been in positive spirits this week. She's been using the wheelchair some and even went for a "walk" around the nurses station. Mom described it as swinging her leg around at the hip, using a walker of course. But hey, she got up on her feet! She still needs assistance even standing up, because she can't really feel her leg, but we are convinced that more physical therapy is going to help her see major improvements soon. I've pointed out a couple of times that she is getting more exercise than I have been lately (she can thank my knee for that)!

And, Mom has had no bleeding issues in the past few days! That was her biggest concern and what she hoped would resolve itself first, which it did, and now she can fully focus on her rehab.

Its hard to believe that Mom has been at MD Anderson less than 3 weeks. It seems like much longer than that, just because its difficult to wrap our minds around the improvements she has been making after such a traumatic event! Her doctors and therapists marvel at how well she is doing, and apparently she's well ahead of where they all thought she would be at this time.

And, for some reason, all her doctors and nurses love her ;) I know none of you find that surprising. Neither do we.

Carolyn
